Client Work: A Little Black Dress for Kim
Working for clients in a bespoke process is one of my favorite things about my job! Kim came to me in search for the perfect little black dress. She was very specific about what she wanted: fitting, v-neck, elegant and, well, black! So we got to work!
Kim made a very comprehensive pinterest board, that included neckline options, silhouet options and textures. We went over the board together and destilled a bunch of ideas. After the appointment, I started sketching some ideas and we landed on idea number 2 (on the right in the picture below)
After deciding on the second sketch, a pattern was drafted and I sewed a first muslin (trial garment).
Kim came to the studio for a first fitting and we made adjustments.
For this particular dress, I decided on a second fitting. It's a form-fitting dress, and I wanted to make sure that all the adjustment landed in the right place. Kim used my find my fabric' -service and we decided on a gorgeous black cotton sateen from Italy. Before cutting into this luscious fabric, we needed to make sure the dress would fit!
The second round of fittings went perfectly, and the final dress was constructed.
And so it happened.... I had a dress! A form-fitting, little black dress.
I think that the back is my absolute favorite part: the deep v-neck, the exposed silver zipper... So much good stuff happening there! I need to find better pictures one day, where the style lines of the dress will be a bit more visible. I think this does show of the silhouette and shape of the dress perfectly.
Kim said she was very happy and seriously, that will always be the best thing: a very happy client!
